COURSE OVERVIEW
Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship
Start: 14th September 2026 -; 15th August 2028 (gateway date)
Monday 5-9pm
This course will be delivered face to face in Crawley College.
The new revised Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting technicians is fully aligned to the apprenticeship criteria.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Individual employers will identify entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications, training or other criteria. AAT level 3 advised. Candidates will hold a Level 2 maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade C or above) or other comparable qualifications.
Completion of the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship may lead to the candidate receiving credits towards the completion of the Professional accountant or tax apprenticeship or chartered Accountancy or taxation qualifications provided by the relevant professional bodies. Completion of the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship may also result in credits being awarded towards relevant undergraduate degree programmes.
Apprentices will complete the five mandatory units of the qualification and then they will be assessed with additional end point assessments, these are currently being confirmed by the government but likely to be professional discussion and synoptic exam.
Financial Accounting
Weighting 25%
•Drafting financial statements (single entity) in line with International standards
• Interpreting financial statements using ratio analysis
• Analysing performance
Management Accounting
Weighting 25%
•Use of cost and management accounting techniques to aid control
•Critically evaluate organizational performance
• Short/ long-term decision-making support
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Skills to monitor and manage liquidity
Audit and Internal Controls
Weighting 15%
• Evaluate internal control systems
•Understanding risk and compliance
•Reporting audit findings
Principles of Taxation
Weighting 15%
•Calculations for UK taxpayers (Income Tax, Capital Gains)
• Identifying tax planning, tax avoidance, tax evasion and money laundering
•Corporation Tax calculations
Advanced Business Awareness
Weighting 20%
• Strategy, ethics and sustainability
• Technology and data privacy
•Using complex business concepts to support informed decisions
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are you are an employer with over 50 employees or are employing an apprentice over the age 19 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
