T Level Maintenance Installation and Repair (Electrical/Electronic)
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Engineering T-Level course is for students who wish to progress into skilled Engineering sector employment or higher-level technical training or study.
The main area of study covers:
Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering & Manufacturing (Electrical Electronic Occupational Specialism)
Included alongside the technical qualification is the completion of an employer set project and a weekly industry placement within the Engineering industry. This T-Level has been developed in collaboration with employers so the content meets the needs of industry, preparing students for the workplace.
There will be a mixture of classroom-based teaching and learning and ‘on-the-job’ learning as the course involves a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) of Industrial Placement.
This new qualification provides the essential knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to an engineering occupation. It has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the engineering industry as well as the occupational skills required to enter the industry (known as ‘threshold competence’;). A learner who completes this qualification is well placed to develop to full occupational competence with the correct support and training.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the engineering industry and the sector and you will cover topics such as:
• Maintenance, installation and repair requirements
• Fault detection and diagnosis
• Isolation and resolution methods
• Communication for maintenance, installation and repair activities
A learner will study a standalone Occupational Specialism in electrical electronic engineering preparing them for this highly in-demand profession.
Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers.
NOTE: Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service Application (DBS) may be required as you may undertake placements in digital setting that engage with vulnerable people.
FURTHER INFORMATION
The T-level is a rigorous level 3 programme. You will need at least 5 x GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including at least a 4 in English Language and Maths. Students with vocational subject knowledge will be considered.
The T-Level ensures students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or higher level technical training. Following the completion of the T level in Engineering you may go on to:
Skilled employment within the Engineering sector.
Higher Level apprenticeships at Level 4 and above.
Higher education as UCAS points have been awarded to T Levels, they facilitate progression to Higher Education
The course is assessed through 2 Core Knowledge Module exams (Maths & Science and Engineering Concepts), an employer -set project and occupational specialism practical project in the form of a synoptic assessment specialising in electrical electronic content.
Students are advised to purchase their own Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) such as overalls and boots in the first weeks of the course. The likely cost of this is approximately £45. The PPE allows you to fully participate in the practical components of the course, in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety regulations. PPE is used throughout the student’;s time on the Engineering programme.
