COURSE OVERVIEW
Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship
Start: 15th September 2026 -; 18th January (gateway date)
Tuesday 9:30 am -; 2pm.
This course will be delivered face to face in Crawley College.
This apprenticeship includes the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting as the mandatory on-programme learning, therefore you will achieve two qualifications upon successful completion.
An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practise or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month end, management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, although some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification.
This apprenticeship is a progression route for students who have achieved either the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping. Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to taking the end point assessment.
As well as ensuring full competency as an Assistant Accountant, this standard provides the foundation for progression onto AAT Level 4 or into a number of career paths in the Accounting sector including Audit Trainee, Corporate Recovery Analyst, Credit Controller or Tax Accountant.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed with four AAT exams throughout the course and will need to create a portfolio of evidence (recorded on Onefile) and complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of the course.
An assessor will support you throughout your apprenticeship and meet regularly for progress reviews with you and your line manager.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
Note: All AAT students have to personally register as student members of the AAT. They are also expected to purchase the books that are required for the course which totals approx £120.00.
