Level 2
Welding Skills Certificate – Level 2
COURSE OVERVIEW
The course runs 1 evening per week 6pm-8.30pm.
The Level 2 Certificate provides the perfect opportunity for anyone wishing to improve their existing skills, and work in heavier thicknesses or types of metal. Delivery is one evening a week during term time, duration will be 2.5 hours per week and training will last between 20 and 34 weeks depending on the processes chosen and individual skills. Applicants will need to complete two of the four processes offered; MMA, MIG, TIG ferrous, and TIG aluminium. This level 2 course is primarily concerned with positional welding, and destructive testing of samples. Which provides the opportunity to see what makes a good weld. By the end of the course you will achieve certification in your chosen processes, and have gained a sound understanding of the theory behind them, as well as the performing of destructive tests. In addition to this, you will be inducted in the use of workshop facilities, and have a better understanding of technical terms involved in welding. This Certificate is an internationally recognised qualification from City & Guilds.

Applicants need to be over 19. This course is suitable for those with some experience within the industry requiring certification for job progression, or having completed the level 1 certificate in welding and wish to increase your skills. This level 2 course is far more industry based, and would suit someone looking for employment in the welding sector. The workshop is adapted for wheelchair access and welding equipment can be modified.
Upon completion, this qualification will strengthen your position in the employment market, as having good positional welding skills in 3 processes will broaden the range of roles available.
Assessment will be conducted by the tutors running the course, and verified both internally and externally. Each process requires you to produce a series of 5 test welds which must meet a predetermined standard set by City & Guilds. In addition to this there are a set of questions regarding health and safety, and theory relevant to the process, this is conducted verbally within the workshop.
Course cost:
- £1015.00 for 2025/26
The cost includes materials, registration and certification.
You will be required to provide your own PPE for the assessment.
Students aged 19 and over will have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances.
