Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations – General Construction
COURSE OVERVIEW
The NOCN Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations -; General Construction is designed for learning in a real workplace, so you’;ll need to be employed in the industry while you complete it.
This qualification gives you the chance to prove your skills, knowledge and understanding through the work you do every day. By completing it, you’;ll be able to show that you’;re fully competent to work confidently and safely within the Construction and Civil Engineering Operations sectors.
This qualification/pathway consists of three mandatory units and two optional units. In order to achieve this qualification/pathway learners must successfully complete all three Mandatory units and one Optional Unit.
Mandatory Group:
- Installing, Maintaining, and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment in the Workplace
- Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
- Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
Optional Group:
- Placing and Finishing Concrete in the Workplace
- Installing Drainage in the Workplace

There are no formal entry requirements for the NOCN Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations -; General Construction.
You can start this qualification even if you’;ve never taken any training or gained any previous qualifications in this area. All you need is a real work environment where you can demonstrate your skills as you learn.
When you complete the NOCN Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations -; General Construction, you’;ll have the skills, knowledge and confidence to move on to a higher-level qualification in the same or a related area.
As you gain more experience in the workplace, you could also progress into roles with more responsibility, including supervisory or even management positions.
This qualification is recognised across the industry and can be used on its own to help you step into a suitable job role.
You’;ll be assessed on a set of skills and knowledge based on the National Occupational Standards for Construction and Civil Engineering Operations (Level 2). A qualified assessor, who has experience in your trade area, will work with you throughout the qualification. Their job is to support you, guide you, and help you gather the right evidence to complete your pathway successfully.
To achieve the qualification, you’;ll need to put together a Portfolio of Evidence. This will show how you’;ve met the required skills and knowledge for each unit.
Your assessor will explain exactly what you need to include and will help you build your portfolio step by step.
