COURSE OVERVIEW
Both Health and Social Care and Childcare are quite complex industries to work in but both have very rewarding outcomes. They truly are industries you join because you want to not because of money. There is a lot of responsibility with this role and it is for this reason this course and the Level 1 Diploma are being offered. These courses allow you the opportunity to study both areas at once so you can gain a better understanding of each area. Enabling you to make the right choice for you as to what you wish to pursue as a career. You will learn 2 different qualifications in:
- Caring for Children – Where you will learn the basic skills on how to care for a baby all the way through to early childhood including those with educational needs.
- Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care – Where you will learn the basics of what it takes to look after an adult with medical or care needs.
Every learner at Crawley College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements.
- Subject Course- Vocational or Chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12-16 hours a week
- English and Maths – Every Learner will work towards Level English and Maths (C grade equivalent).Learners who have achieved a Grade C will extend their English and Maths

Whilst you do not need to have any formal qualifications to join this programme we do ask that you have a basic understanding of English.
Once you have completed this course you will be able to build on the skills you have gained on this course by studying our Level 1 Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings.
You will be assessed on the course work you produce throughout the year.
Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances. Students aged 19 and over will have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Students are expected to bring with them the following items.
- Notepad
- Ring Binder Folder
- Pen
- Plastic Wallets
- Dividers
- USB
- Access to a PC is an advantage
