COURSE OVERVIEW

This course will build on the content of Stage 1 and will introduce the three main models of counselling/psychotherapy, namely, the psychoanalytic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural (CBT).

Learners will be introduced to, among others, the psychoanalytic approaches of Freud and Winnicott, Bowlby’s attachment theory, transactional analysis, Jung’s analytical psychology, gestalt therapy, Beck’s cognitive therapy, and third wave CBT. There will be opportunities to explore links and parallels between the different approaches.

The course will include:

  • Theoretical input
  • Discussion
  • Experiential exercises
  • Skills practice

The course will also involve tutor input, YouTube videos, small group and whole group discussions and experiential exercises. It will build on Stage 1, along with question types and ways of challenging.

Additional tasks will be allocated to the learners to undertake further reflective work and research outside of the classroom in addition to the 100 hours of class contact.

You will need to attend one of our Induction/Interview sessions prior to being accepted on this course. Dates will be posted here by the end of May 2024.

If you think you are in need of counselling yourself, this is probably not the time to be considering a counselling course. If you are experiencing emotional difficulties please contact your doctor for advice, or visit NHS Talking Therapies Services :: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

    FURTHER INFORMATION

Learners must have a good level of spoken and written English. They need sufficient mental and emotional strength and maturity and resilience to be able to participate in each session of the course, which is very experiential as a lot of learning takes place through discussion and practice through role plays.
