COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is for adults aged 19 and over, who want to learn the foundations of barbering, either to begin a career in men’;s hair services or for professional development within the industry. The course runs 1 evening per week Monday 6pm-9pm, you will need to provide your own models.
The core units covered are:
- Working in the hair industry
- Follow Health & Safety practice in the salon
- Client consultation for hair service
- Shampoo & Condition
- Promote products & services
- Cut facial hair
- Cut men’s hair
- Styling men’s hair

This course is suitable for adults over the age of 19.
We will invite you to an interview with the course tutor where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
We expect a good understanding of English in both verbalizing and written
We are firmly committed to finding the right course for you to ensure that you can flourish.
This qualification is recognised by the British Barbering Association and The Hairdressing Council. You will be able to progress into a career as a junior barber with a wide range of establishments in the UK and around the world. This includes: barber shops, hair salons, spas, hotels and cruise ships, or you might prefer to work for yourself.
Alternatively, you could progress to a Women’;s Hairdressing course to develop your technical and creative abilities and extend your career opportunities, for example by working in fashion, media, TV or film.
If you completed the course to extend your existing hairdressing skills, you will be able to extend your client base, to include male customers.
This part-time course is taught at college in our professional hair salons, for one evening a week on a Monday evening 6-9 pm for 34 weeks.
Your teachers have a wealth of professional and teaching experience and excellent links with local employers and industry experts.
You will have opportunities to work with real clients to perfect your skills and you may have the opportunity to showcase your creativity and technical ability.
Your work will be assessed throughout the course through practical assessments and assignments.
The learner will be expected to purchase a kit and uniform.
Text book is also required.
Compulsory Fee £150 this fee goes towards consumables used on your course (2024/25)

You will need to wear all black with plain shoes or smart black trainers. The barbering kit costs approximately £420 which includes the latest Clipper, Trimmers & Foils
