Level 2

C&G 2850-26 L2 Diploma in Engineering – Fabrication and Welding

COURSE OVERVIEW

This Practical based course with underpinning theory, is designed to build on, and advance the skills gained on the Level 1 course, to further develop the students’; welding and fabrication skills, preparing them for work within the industry.
The majority of the welding (TIG, MIG and MMA) will be produced “positionally” i.e. vertically and overhead, and will be carried out on a variety of material types and thicknesses, including aluminium and stainless steel.
You will be trained to carry out destructive testing on all welds, interpreting the results and producing written reports, all to industry standard. There will be a strong emphasis on weld quality and presentation, with students expected to understand and identify weld faults, and how to avoid or rectify them.
You will learn how to choose the correct materials, welding process, consumables, and parameters, for a variety of different fabrications, and be introduced to more complex technical drawings to work from when producing sheet metal, and structural fabrications.
Students will produce Mild steel fabrications utilising Thermal cutting processes.
Although this is a practical based course, students are expected to produce written reports of their projects and advanced theory lessons underpin the practical training taking place.
