Sparks fly as Crawley College students impress in welding competition
Two Crawley College students have impressed, finishing first and third in a recent WorldSkills UK regional welding competition.
Students took part in ‘Skillweld 25’, which aims to raise the standard of training provided to multi-skilled welders. All in order to increase employability and productivity.
Finn Page, a level one fabrication and welding student at the college, impressed the judges and went on to win the competition.
He said he had found the competition difficult, but a lot of fun, and he was very happy to have taken first place. Staff at the college were very proud of him, and applauded his professional attitude to the competition.
Will Hodder, another talented welding student who participated in the competition, earned an impressive third-place finish. The judges were particularly impressed by his advanced welding techniques and his strong command of safety protocols.
The competition was hosted at Crawley College, where Finn and Will also competed alongside peers from North London College, and had to produce four samples in a variety of positions, materials, and processes designed to test their abilities within four hours.
The competition is designed to test participants’ skills in the three main welding processes, Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Metal Active Gas (MAG) Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG).
Dean Wynter, Acting Principal at Crawley College, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of our students’ achievements at Skillweld 25. They have shown all our students what is possible through hard work and perseverance.
“Competitions like this challenge students to apply their learning under real pressure, and the results speak volumes about their dedication and the quality of training we deliver at Crawley College.”
The results of these regional finals will be announced later this year, so stay tuned to the college’s social media pages for more updates.
