Crawley College student triumphs at regional SkillBuild competition
A talented student from Crawley College has claimed victory at the regional SkillBuild competition, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and technical ability in the field of carpentry and joinery.
Sam Thornton, currently studying a level 2 furniture making course at Crawley College, impressed judges with his precision, creativity, and professionalism during the intense event, held at Oaklands College earlier this month.
Competing against some of the most promising young tradespeople from across the region, Sam secured first place in the furniture and cabinet making category.
SkillBuild, delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), is the UK’s largest multi-trade competition, and has been designed to promote excellence among the next generation of construction professionals.
Dean Wynter, Acting Principal at Crawley College, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Sam’s achievement. This win is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the high standard of training we provide at Crawley College.
“Sam was joined in the competition by his classmate, Joao Oitaven, and I know they both put in a huge amount of hard work in preparation for the day, and produced some fine work under pressure.
“I know the competition on the day was fierce with a lot of talent on display, so for Sam to take top spot is an enormous achievement – we now wait to hear if Sam has qualified for the national finals later this year.”
