Creative Crawley College students join celebratory community project

19 April 2024

Visitors to the County Mall have been able to watch the innovative work of Crawley College students.

‘The Best of Us’ art installation, which has been on display at County Mall over the past month, allowed the youth of Crawley to look to their futures.

The project, launched by Creative County West Sussex and Chichester Festival Theatre, welcomed an incredible art sculpture, various design work and an innovative short film by Creative Media students at Crawley College.

Angela Watkins, Youth and Outreach Project Manager at Creative County West Sussex and Chichester Festival Theatre,  said: “The Best of Us installation, was a celebration of community involving over 120 children and young people from a variety of schools and colleges in Crawley, each sharing their hopes and dreams for the future.

“The feedback has been wonderful with many commenting on the positive message it has shared with the local community.

“The students produced some incredible work which Creative County West Sussex and Chichester Festival Theatre has been very proud to showcase with this special one-off project.”

This project welcomed students of all ages from primary school to college level and even welcomed the expertise of West Sussex sculptor, Helen Solly.

Angela added: “It has been a delight working with the Crawley College team and we are so impressed with the quality of the work produced by all the students involved.”

Although this is a one-off project, students and staff at Crawley College are always open to working with the local community and inspire the youth of today.

Dean Wynter, Deputy Principal of Crawley College added: “It is always exciting to have an opportunity to show off the talent and abilities of our students here at Crawley and this project was no exception.

“We want to thank both Creative County West Sussex and Chichester Festival Theatre for involving our Creative Media Students in such an inspiring project.”
