Ambulance service apprentices graduate at college ceremony

Crawley College celebrated the achievement of 36 apprentices from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). 

A special ceremony was held on Wednesday evening (27 April) for the graduates, who have completed their level 4 diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners (AAP) – combining studying in the college’s specialist facilities alongside to training while on the job. 
 
Vicki Illingworth, Crawley College Principal, said: “We were delighted to be able to celebrate with our SECAmb apprentices. 
 
“They have worked so hard over the past two years, combining studying with working in what is an extremely challenging industry, so we’re really pleased to be able to give them the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishment with their family and friends. 
 
“Apprenticeships are a brilliant way for people to gain qualifications, while building significant experience in the workplace and we’re proud of our partnership with SECAmb in delivering this training provision for their associate ambulance practitioners.”  
 
The AAP apprenticeship provides practitioners with the skills they need to respond to call outs and assess, treat and manage patients at the scene, wither referring them to alternative care providers or safely discharging them. 

Ashley Richardson, Consultant Paramedic for Clinical Education at SECAmb said: “It was truly fantastic to be able to pause, reflect and celebrate the achievements of our apprentice Associate Ambulance Practitioners who have graduated from their programme of study and to do this with our education partner, Crawley College, our apprentices, families and friends. 

 “The partnership between SECAmb and Crawley College is special, and we continue to work hard to improve upon the learner experience of our apprentices.”
