Students enjoying learning in Crawley College’s new STEM Centre
A brand new, multi-million pound STEM facility has started welcoming students at Crawley College.
The new building, which is situated next to the college’s 58 Restaurant in College Road, is home to a suite of innovative and interactive spaces which will help to put the college at the cutting edge of training delivery across a range of subjects.
Work was completed at the end of February and now lessons have started taking place in the facility.
Leading the way are the college’s digital T Level students – among the first in the country to be studying this new technical qualification – and they will be joined by other media, IT and electronics students.
They were quick to voice their approval of the new centre.
Mario, who is studying the T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development, said: “The STEM building looks very modern, clean and spacious. It’s a great space to learn in.”
Classmate Richard agreed: “It’s great to see a fresh new building at the college. It feels a lot more accessible.”
Vicki Illingworth, Principal at Crawley College, said: “We are delighted with our new STEM Centre. It has been fantastic to see it taking shape over the past year, and we are excited to soon be opening it to our students.
“We’ll be using the very latest technology to deliver of our STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.
“But it goes so much further than that, as we will also be able to integrate these technologies into all subjects across the college.”
The £5million facility, which has been funded by the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, will be used to train students and apprentices in the latest skills required by industries across the region.
Jonathan Sharrock, Chief Executive at Coast to Capital said: “Crawley College’s new STEM Centre is a fantastic local growth fund project which we have been very pleased to support.
“Recovery from the impact of Covid-19 will require intensive, tailored and integrated employment and skills support in all places across the country.
“I am delighted that students have been enjoying learning in the new facilities and look forward to continuing to work with Crawley College to support the future local economy.”
The building project has been managed by West Sussex-based construction contractors W. Stirland and designed by HNW Architects.
