Our range of leisure and hobby courses keeps growing, with even more fun and exciting courses starting throughout 2024.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The course runs 1 evening per week 6pm-9pm.
This course provides the perfect opportunity for anyone who wishes to be able to learn how to weld and are unsure which process would be appropriate for them to learn, it also provides a good underpinning knowledge of the processes and associated health and safety. Students will get to choose three of the four processes offered; MMA, MIG, TIG, and Oxy-acetylene. By the end of the course you will achieve certification in your chosen processes, and have gained a sound understanding of the theory behind them. In addition to this, you will be inducted in the use of the workshop facilities, and have a better understanding of the technical terms involved in welding. This Certificate is an internationally recognised qualification from City & Guilds.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Applicants need to be over 19 and may be those in the industry requiring certification for job progression, people involved in vehicle restoration with limited welding experience, people looking into a career change with no previous experience in the subject, or to those looking for a practical course who do not wish to work within the industry. The workshop is adapted for wheelchair access and welding equipment can be modified.
Upon completion, this qualification will allow progression to the level 2 certificate offered by the college. A level 1 certificate would be useful in regard to apprenticeship application, or entry to a full-time course in Fabrication and Welding at Crawley College.
Assessment will be conducted by the tutors running the course, and verified both internally and externally. Each process requires the student to produce a series of 5 test welds which must meet a predetermined standard set by City & Guilds. In addition to this there are a set of questions regarding health and safety, and theory relevant to the process, this is conducted verbally within the workshop.
