COURSE OVERVIEW
If you love meeting people, delivering great customer service and resolving problems, all with a smile on your face, you’re perfectly poised for a career as an air cabin crew member. You’ll gain the customer service, first aid and food service skills you need to travel the world in this exciting sector. You will learn how to deal with a variety of situations including:
- Airline Health and Safety and Legislation
- Aircraft Emergencies
- Airline Terminology
- Crew Room Duties
- First Aid
- Customer Service
You will undertake team building activities which are essential to this career including Ditching Drills, Safety Awareness training at BA and other interactive activities. Every learner at Crawley College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:
- Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
- English and Maths – Every learner will work towards GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths or Functional Skills. Learners who have already achieved a Grade 4 or C will extend their English and Maths through in-class activities.
You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study or into work.

This course is aimed at all those aged between 17-19 years old
- At least 4x GCSE at grade 3 including English and Maths
- You also need to meet the airline requirement of being able to swim 25 metres unaided.
Upon successful completion of this programme you can progress in your studies by studying our level 3 Travel and Tourism Diploma. By law you have to be 18 to work as cabin crew however, you can gain useful customer service skills in a customer service role like a restaurant prior to turning 18.
Some of the practical assessments will take place in a standard aircraft flight mock-up and other assessments will take place at either Heathrow or Gatwick airport with a partner airline and written assignments make up the other part of the qualification which will be done in class and at home.
Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances. - You will be asked to buy a black suit or equivalent to wear when asked and when on trips and visits, more information will be given at interview/enrolment
