COURSE OVERVIEW
Apprentices will train as Service & Maintenance Technicians, learning how to diagnose and repair a range of faults on vehicles from simple through to complex diagnostics; carry out routine light vehicle maintenance and inspections including servicing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records.
The course is delivered in the College and Workplace and comprises:
- Level 3 Service & Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard including F-Gas
- Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities
- Functional Skills Maths Level 2 (exempt if Grade A-C/9-4 in Maths GCSE)
- Functional Skills English Level 2 (exempt if Grade A-C/9-4 in English Language GCSE)
20% off the job training is a requirement of all Apprenticeships. This will be work based training led by the employer. College Day Release will count towards this requirement.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Candidates will ideally have a Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competencies (or equivalent) and English language and Maths GCSE grade C/4 or above (if not they will work towards Functional Skills equivalents)
Apprentices must be in paid employment in the relevant industry to cover the requirements of the standard and will ideally work at least 30 hours per week. Assessments need to be taken to determine suitability for the Apprenticeship and to look at additional support if required. The Apprentice must have a contract of employment and be covered under their employer’;s relevant insurance.
This standard has been designed to be recognised by relevant Professional Engineering Institutions and successful apprentices can apply for the appropriate level of professional registration (EngTech)
The Apprenticeship Standard contains an End-Point-Assessment which includes: • Knowledge Assessments • Practical Observation • Professional Review (supported by Portfolio of Evidence)
Alongside this there will be gateway exams that form part of the Standards
Functional Skills are assessed through online tests and must be passed to Level 2 in order to move to EPA.
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
