The AM2S is compulsory for Apprentices who are training against the Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship Standard and started their apprenticeship before September 2023. Apprentices who were enrolled from September 2023 will be taking the AM2SV1 Assessment. Candidates must be aware that it is a rigorous electrical assessment and they should possess the basic skills and practical knowledge in all the assessment areas specified. On application, candidates must complete and return the Readiness for Assessment Checklist to ensure that they have the required knowledge and experience to take the test.

The AM2S Assessment forms the End-Point Assessment (EPA) for apprentices undertaking the Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship Standard who commenced their apprenticeship prior to September 2023. The assessment is designed to confirm that apprentices have developed the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to operate competently as an electrician and to meet the requirements for achieving apprenticeship completion.
Successful completion of the AM2S is a mandatory requirement for apprentices seeking to achieve the Electrical Apprenticeship Standard and demonstrate occupational competence within the electrotechnical industry.

The AM2S Assessment is completed over three consecutive days and is divided into a number of assessment sections, each designed to test the knowledge, skills, and competence required of a qualified electrician.
During several of the practical assessment activities, candidates will be observed by an assessor while carrying out the tasks. Although this can feel daunting, it is a normal part of the assessment process and provides the assessor with the opportunity to evaluate safe working practices, technical ability, and overall competence. To help build confidence, candidates may find it beneficial to practise completing tasks while being observed by a colleague, supervisor, or mentor prior to attending the assessment. This can help candidates become more comfortable working under observation and better prepare them for the AM2 environment.
Candidates may wish to book onto the AM2S Refresher course before undertaking their assessment; however, attendance is entirely optional. The course is designed to provide a theory-based overview of the AM2 assessment process, helping candidates to understand the assessment requirements, expectations, and marking criteria, while building confidence ahead of their assessment.
