COURSE OVERVIEW
The purpose of this course is to ensure all qualifying installation electricians achieve a single industry standard. The content, structure and marking of the assessment is designed to provide evidence that a candidate has gained all the relevant competencies during their training.
Section A1: Safe Isolation and Risk Assessment -; 45 mins
In this section, you need to demonstrate that you can carry out a safe isolation procedure in the correct sequence to ensure the safety of not only yourself but everyone else on site. You’;ll also undertake and document an assessment of any risks to safety that may be present.
Sections A2-A5: Composite Installation -; 8.5 hours
Following the diagrams and instructions you’;re given, you’;ll prepare, install, connect and terminate conductors at a TP&N Distribution Board and equipment outlets to industry standards. To complete this section, you must demonstrate occupational competence in accordance with statutory and non-statutory regulations and approved industry working practices.
Section B: Inspection, Testing and Certification -; 3.5 hours
During this section, you’;ll carry out a visual inspection of your installation and complete a series of tests following practices and procedures that take into account electrically sensitive equipment. You can change any part of your installation that you find is incorrect or not complete.
Section C: Safe Isolation of Circuits -; 30 mins
This second safe isolation test covers three specific scenarios: the replacement of single-phase equipment, three-phase equipment and the isolation of the distribution board.
Section D: Fault Diagnosis and Rectification -; 2 hours
From information provided, you will identify faults in a circuit. You’;ll need to record the type of fault and its specific location, then recommend how each fault could be corrected, including any works needed to prove the fault has been rectified.
Section E: Assessment of Applied Knowledge -; 1 hour
This is an online test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions designed to assess your knowledge of the health and safety regulations, building regulations and BS 7671 -; so make sure you revise these.
The revision day is highly recommended to support the success of the AM2 achievement, if this is required the cost is £175.00 for AM2 Refresher.

FURTHER INFORMATION
The AM2 is compulsory for Apprentices, adult trainees or up-skilling workers who wish to gain industry recognised qualified status.
Candidates must be aware that it is a rigorous electrical assessment and they should possess the basic skills and practical knowledge in all the assessment areas specified.
On application, candidates must complete and return the Readiness for Assessment Checklist to ensure that they have the required knowledge and experience to take the test.
On successful completion of the assessment an NET certificate of competence will be issued by the Certification Body.
Candidates may wish to continue their training by undertaking the City & Guilds Initial & Periodic Testing and Inspection (2391-52) course.
You will be assessed over five timed practical assessments (including an online exam) over the three days.
You will be assessed on installation, inspection & testing and fault-finding. Your work must comply with the current British Standard (BS7671:2018) and meet the requirements of the relevant Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

All tools and equipment are provided by the centre.
Candidates must wear safety boots as you will be in a workshop. Appropriate clothing is also recommended due to the nature of the assessments. Shorts and skirts are not permitted to be worn.
