Why choose this course?
The Experienced Worker qualification is for electricians who have been working in the industry, as a practicing electrician, for at least 5 years (not including time spent in full or part time training) but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification.
It is suitable for both self-employed and employed electricians who have worked for several years but have never gained full, formal recognition of their skills or experience. You will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 Electrotechnical apprenticeship.

This qualification is intended exclusively for experienced individuals who are currently working, or have previously worked, in the electrotechnical industry as an Electrician for a minimum of five years. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their technical knowledge, practical skills, and competence to the Level 3 industry standard in one of the occupations covered by this qualification, while working in accordance with the current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
To be eligible, learners must either hold a relevant Level 2 Electrotechnical qualification or have successfully passed one of the following assessments:
City & Guilds Experienced Worker Entrance Test – Installation and Maintenance Electrician (2346-04), or
EAL Electrical Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding Tests (Experienced Worker Route).

Learners who successfully complete the Experienced Worker Qualification as well as the occupational competence assessment (AM2E), delivered by NET, will be
judged to have met the eligibility requirements sufficient to apply for an ECS Card from the JIB in the occupation that they have qualified.
To achieve this qualification, you must meet the requirements of all units by demonstrating both your knowledge and competence in the workplace.
You will be assessed on the knowledge requirements specified within each unit. You must provide workplace evidence showing that you meet the performance criteria for each unit.
Evidence must be provided on at least two separate occasions for each unit. Any specific evidence requirements (range statements) must be covered across these occasions. Evidence may include:
- Reflective accounts
- Witness testimonies
- Professional discussions
- Authenticated and verified photographs
Your assessor will use a range of approved assessment methods and, where possible, assess evidence holistically across multiple criteria. In addition, your assessor must carry out at least two workplace observations as part of the assessment process.
