About the course

The course comprises a range of units.  Core units which must be undertaken and Options.  In order to attain a certificate a minimum of 28 credits must be achieved.  The structure for the course is detailed below.

  • Developing yourself as an effective HR practitioner                           - 4 Credits - Core
  • Understanding organisations and the role of HR                                - 4 Credits - Core
  • Recording, analysing and using HR information                                 - 2 Credits - Core
  • Resourcing Talent                                                                               - 6 Credits - Option
  • Supporting good practice in managing employment relations            - 6 Credits - Option
  • Supporting good practice in performance and reward management  - 6 Credits - Option

Successful completion, in addition to the relevant work based experience, will enable you to apply for the Associate Membership of the CIPD.

WHO CAN JOIN?

The people this course is suitable for include:

  • Anyone working at the level of Human Resource (HR) assistant, HR administrator or HR officer, whose role is to provide support for key aspects of the HR function.
  • Someone new to, or aspiring to, a career in the HR function.
  • Line managers, supervisors, team leaders or consultants who wish to gain the same level of HR skills as practitioners at this level.
  • The owners or managers of small businesses.

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme. Entry to the course will be subject to an interview with the course tutor. However, candidates will require a good general education and/or experience in business, administration, training, personnel/HR for entry to the programme. Current access to or experience of HR work / Business environment is important. However, where students have not had this access / experience in the past, arrangements will be made to support them.

It is vital that students are able to commit 3 / 4 hours additional study time during each week between lectures and are able to produce written assignments of between 1,500 and 2,000 words to demonstrate an understanding of each unit's learning.  The assessments vary from essays to reports with observation of student's practical skills included in the course.  Although some support will be given in producing written work it is important that students have a good understanding and level of written English at the commencement of the course.

Costs/EQUIPMENT

Please note: CIPD Membership and books are not included in the course fee. 

Membership fees for up to 15 months (from 1st April 2019 to 30th June 2020)

Joining fee: £40 + Membership fee: £118 = Total: £158

Course books approximately £50.00.

Cost Information for students aged 19 and over on the start date of their studies.

Students aged 19 and over will need to pay tuition fees and awarding body registration/members fees.

Advanced Learner Loans

Learners who are aged 19 and over and studying Level 3 - 6 Further Education and training programmes.

Advanced Learner Loans will give learners in further education access to financial support for tuition costs, similar to that which is available in Higher Education. This means rather than an individual having to pay for their course upfront they have the option of accessing a loan, from the Student Loans Company, that they will only start to repay once they have left the course and are earning over £25,000.

Learners aged 19 and over will therefore have the option to either:

  • Pay the course fees themselves
  • Have an employer/sponsor pay the course fees for them
  • Apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help pay for the course fees

The Advanced Learner Loans are for anyone who is:

  • Aged 19 and above at the start of their course
  • Studying at Level 3 - 6 in Further Education and training
  • Resident in the UK
  • Has not previously had a loan to do the same type and level of qualification.

The loan is available irrespective of the learner’s current employment status and the loan will not be means tested or subject to any credit checks.

AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE

Progression from this course is to the Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resources Management or the Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management - A large number of students progress directly onto Level 7.

This course has a high success rate.  The CIPD, our Awarding Body, have given us Direct Claims Status for this course which shows they have a high level of confidence in our ability to deliver this course.

Membership of the CIPD

In order to join the course, applicants must become student members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  As part of the induction to the course the respective course tutor will complete the necessary process for entry to the institute.  Student membership provides a range of benefits including access to the institutes substantial website, People Management Magazine and access to local branch events including the employment law updates.
