About the course

You will build your knowledge and skills in how to start and run a business, including marketing, finance and administration. Through a range of role plays and other practical activities you will become more confident in working in teams and engaging positively with customers in a work environment.

Business planning, enterprise and the delivery of business objectives are all key components of this course.  There will also be a variety of other opportunities to get involved in business competitions run within the subject area.

WHO CAN JOIN?

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 3, including English or Maths.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

You will take a number of units in different topics to make up the Extended Certificate. Most units will consist of a number of assignments which will be set and marked by your teachers. They will be based on real-life situations and will be assessed through a mixture of written and practical tasks. One of the Units, on the Principles of Marketing, will be assessed through a written examination and another, Finance and Business, through an onscreen test.

Costs/EQUIPMENT

Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances.

Attendance requirements

Students will be expected to attend approximately 18.5 hours per week

AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE

You can progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma to develop your skills even further. You might also look for a job as an office administrator, bank cashier, or customer services representative.
