About the course

You’ll become competent in the workings of hot and cold water systems and central heating systems, as well as reinforcing your knowledge of common plumbing processes and taking a look at how drainage works. You’ll also get to know about health and safety in building services and how to communicate effectively with those working alongside you.

The course is divided into units which includes:

  • Health & Safety in building services engineering
  • Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
  • Scientific principles and processes for building services engineering
  • Common plumbing processes
  • Cold water systems
  • Hot water systems
  • Central heating systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering

Every learner at Crawley College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:

  • Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
  • English and Maths – Every learner will work towards GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths or Functional Skills. Learners who have already achieved a Grade 4 or C will extend their English and Maths through in-class activities.
  • 3E – Our own brand of specific entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability training.

You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the three elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year.  Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study or into work. 

WHO CAN JOIN?

4 x GCSEs at grade 3 including English or Maths or 4x GCSEs at grade D including English or Maths

Costs/EQUIPMENT

Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances.

AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship where you will earn while you learn.
