About the course

The course is designed to establish a full understanding of the skills required to become a bricklayer. The course is made up of 7 units that cover both, the trade specific skills as well as the more generic knowledge and skills covering subjects such as health and safety and communications.

The 7 units include:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • Understanding construction technology
  • Set out masonry structures
  • Construct solid walling incorporating isolated and attached piers
  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
  • Construct masonry cladding

WHO CAN JOIN?

This course is suitable for those who have successfully completed Bricklaying diploma Level 1, and not employed in the construction industry who wish to gain a recognised qualification and seek employment in the bricklaying industry.  

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

Assessment is based on you showing what you can do as an individual and your understanding of the subject. Undertaking both theory and practical assignments covering the general principles of bricklaying.

Costs/EQUIPMENT

Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances.

Students aged 19 and over will have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment and childcare. Attendance requirements

2 evenings per week 18:00-21:00 - days to be confirmed at interview
