About the course

This course will provide candidates with the required skills needed to visually inspect welded joint, identify weld imperfections (defects), record and document before assessing the welded joint for acceptance against specified criteria.

The course will cover the following main areas:

  • Visual weld inspection techniques and the correct use of inspection tools and gauges
  • Types of weld imperfection (defect)
  • Use of standards in weld inspection
  • Inspection of parent materials and consumables used in welded joints
  • Recording of visual welding inspection
  • Compliance with specified acceptance criteria
  • Preparation for assessment to CSWIP 3.0
  • Assessment to CSWIP 3.0

WHO CAN JOIN?

This course is suitable for Welder, Operators, Work Shop Supervisors and Foremen who undertake visual examination of welded joints, quality control personnel associated with welding and anyone who requires training in welding inspection coupled with a qualification in this field.

Entry is via an informal interview with one of the Welding Team.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

Your assessment will be a practical assessment of two visual weld inspections (one fillet weld and one butt weld) where you will be required to assess the weld samples for acceptance against a given standard and answer multiple choice questions on the weld samples.
