Apprentices from Crawley College were amongst more than a hundred people who recently came together for the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) Celebrating Success Ceremony.
The special ceremony, held on Tuesday 1 October, recognised the achievements of 60 learners including Crawley College’s Emergency Care Support Workers (ECSWs) and Associate Ambulance Practitioners (AAPs).
Joined also by other education partners, the University of Cumbria and St George’s University London, the event highlighted the hard efforts made by each and every student.
One Associate Ambulance Practitioner from Crawley College, Jason McDougall, revealed how this is a special highlight in his journey.
Jason said: “Doing my AAP course has been so exciting but also such a contrast from what I have been used to previously.
“I have been allowed dedicated study time alongside my day to day on the road and graduating is just such a relief as I am now onto the next step of my goal which is the paramedic course.”
Many students celebrated one another’s special moments and shared key experiences and advice which they will take into their futures in the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
Alongside the academic certificate presentations, special awards were also presented to a number of learners to recognise the effort that is needed alongside their studies.
Michele Neep was awarded as Crawley College’s ECSW Outstanding Learner to honour her stand out journey.

At the age of 49 Michele took the bold step to change careers and joined the Trust as an ECSW. Balancing family life and the demands of the role, she completed her qualification after three years of relentless effort.
Michele said: “It really is relentless, but I am over the moon to be here today. It really has been a long journey, juggling family life with my studies, but my advice for anyone thinking of taking the jump would be to do it.”
The ceremony proved to be not only the perfect opportunity for staff of the colleges and trust to celebrate the student successes but also for families and friends were able to join their SECAmb superstars in their proudest moments.
Vicki Illingworth, Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Principal at Chichester College Group, brought the ceremony to a heartwarming close, she said: “You make a difference every-day and we are incredibly proud to see you grow, develop and flourish as confidence, skills and knowledge evolve.
“Thank you for doing what you do, be proud of your achievements and accomplishments – we certainly are.”
