Crawley furniture students get ready for their next steps

9 July 2021

Crawley College furniture students have been showcasing their achievements.

Three level two wood machining students have been studying alongside bench joinery students at the college, and taking additional classes via Microsoft Teams with lecturers at Chichester and Brinsbury Colleges to help them extend and complete their learning.

Trevor Francis, Wood Trades lecturer at Crawley College, said: “Shahzad and Monique are part-time students, studying six hours a week, while Harry is a full-time student.

“They have all done really well, completing their practical and theory classes with me and their additional remote classes with Sean Casey and Andrew Pengelly.

“They have shown fantastic commitment in learning how to set up and use woodworking machinery, including designing and making jigs to manufacture furniture.

“They are all moving on to some fantastic next steps, with Harry and Shahzad both progressing to level three furniture making at Brinsbury College in September, while Monique is applying for an apprenticeship as a wood machining technician.

“They have bright futures ahead of them and have all demonstrated a wonderful attitude to overcome the obstacles of what has been a difficult year.”
