National honour for Crawley College student
Crawley College’s construction department are celebrating, after student Kieran Barnes won a prestigious national competition earlier this month.
Kieran Barnes took the top award at the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers annual competition, after spending eight hours creating a specialist tool carrier, including a sliding tray.
He was one of three Crawley College students competing at the Building Crafts College in Stratford, with Connor New and Joe Hibbert also making the long journey.
They were up against 22 other students from all across the country.
Lecturer Trevor Francis said: “It was a long day, but Kieran produced the goods and won!
“It was a very close competition – one of the judges said it was difficult but the finished quality of Kieran’s work probably made the difference.
“It’s another great triumph for Kieran, who won a Silver medal at last year’s national skills competition – he is a really motivated and hard working apprentice – we’re all very proud of his accomplishment.”
Kieran’s win meant he scooped the top prize – £1,000, some tools and a membership to the Worshipful Company of Joiners & Ceilers. He will also attend an awards dinner in London later this year to receive his prizes.
