The Chichester College Group, which includes Crawley College and Chichester College, has been awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Silver award for its higher education provision.
It is the first major higher education (HE) review of the college group since its creation in August 2017 – and it sees Chichester College retain its original ranking which was awarded prior to last year’s merger.
TEF, introduced by Government last year, monitors and assess the quality of HE teaching at colleges and universities.
Silver ratings are awarded for delivering high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for students.
The findings into the group’s submission indicated that ‘most students, from all backgrounds, achieve excellent outcomes’ and noted that the rating reflects ‘the implementation of highly valued enhancement activities through additional contact hours for the development of employability and study skills.'
It also highlighted the ‘planning and support for progression to higher education of a diverse local student population’ and the ‘strategic development of an institutional culture which facilitates, recognises and rewards excellent teaching’.

“They regularly go above and beyond their duty to ensure our students receive an outstanding education.
“We cover a huge range of HE courses, and offer students a real alternative to traditional university routes – and this group rating can give students confidence in the quality of teaching they will receive at our colleges.”
The TEF was developed by the Department for Education and is carried out by the Office for Students. The awards are judged by an independent panel of experts, including academics, students and other experts.
They are assessed against criteria that covers teaching quality, learning environment and student outcomes, taking in evidence from national data and evidence submitted by the education provider.
The results and the underlying evidence will help students thinking about which university or college to apply to, as well as encouraging teaching and learning excellence across the UK.
