COURSE OVERVIEW
You will experience a variety of learning methods and activities, which will include classroom-based theory sessions, hands-on practical sessions and client based sessions, which will involve working within the college commercial salon. This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy aims to provide you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the beauty Industry. These skills include carrying out treatments such as; manicure, pedicure, hair removal, facial treatments, lash and brow treatments, application of make-up, spray tanning and light cured gel polish. Following successful completion of this qualification you will progress to Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty and Spa Therapies. You will then be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as; beauty salons, spas, hotels or health clubs etc. This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the beauty therapy industries. You will study the following mandatory content:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Principles of practice for Beauty Therapists
- Hair removal treatments
- Facial and skin analysis
- Manicure treatments
- Pedicure treatments
- Light cured gel polish
- Lash and Brow treatments
- Apply make-up services
Every learner at Crawley College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:
- Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
- English and Maths – Every learner will work towards GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths.
You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study or into work.

4 x GCSEs at grade 4-9 including English and Maths or 4x GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths You must set aside time outside of college hours to study and research. Learners must demonstrate at interview their commitment to self-motivated study. Able to bring clients into the college throughout the course to have treatments
Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as; shops, department stores or in salons. The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas such as Nail Technology, Make-up artist or Level 3.
Assessments are continuous throughout the course in the form of in-house tests, projects, assignments and practical observations. You will keep a personal journal where you will record your own journey throughout the course and review, identify and evaluate how your own skills are developing. To achieve this qualification you will be required to successfully complete a written theory exam and a practical synoptic assignment, which is externally set, marked and moderated.
Students 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. Please note: You may be entitled to a Bursary payment to help with costs such as travel to College, trips and equipment, a food allowance and childcare. To qualify you must be resident in the UK and meet the eligibility criteria which will include evidence of your financial circumstances.
