The HABC Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering comprises one mandatory unit, with a total value of three credits:

The Principles of Food Safety Supervision for Catering

  • Understand the role of the supervisor in ensuring compliance with food safety legislation
  • Understand the application and monitoring of good hygiene practice
  • Understand how to implement food safety management procedures
  • Understand the role of the supervisor in staff training


This course is suitable for those employed as managers and supervisors in medium and large manufacturing or catering businesses.

There are no specific entry requirements, however it is recommended that candidates possess one of the following:

  • The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • The Royal Society of Health Certificate in Essential Food Hygiene
  • The Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene Primary Certificate in Food Hygiene

Alternatively any equivalent qualification to the above is recommended.

Acceptance onto course is subject to review at first session.

Complete each step of the application form and then submit your completed form. We’ll let you know when we’ve safely received it with an acknowledgement email.

Application Review Meeting

Before offering you a place at college, we’ll meet with you (either in person, by telephone or online). We’ll send you a link to our booking page where you can select a time that’s convenient for you.

Step 4

Accept Your Place

Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided. The offer will be conditional, based on predicted GCSE grades. You’ll need to accept your offer within 14 days to secure your place.

Step 5

What next?

Once you receive your GCSE results, you’ll need to get in touch with the college to inform us of them and start your enrolment process.
