OCN L2 Dip in Architectural Joinery


This course focuses on practical activity but includes some written theory and portfolio building, consists of the following units:

  • CSA-L1Core01 Health, safety and welfare in the construction and associated industries.
  • CSA-L2Core04 Understanding information, quantities and communication with others.
  • CSA-L1Core03 Knowledge of construction technology.
  • CSA-L1Occ11 Prepare and use carpentry and joinery power tools.
  • CSA-L2Occ40 Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery.
  • CSA-L2Occ59 Produce setting out details for routine joinery products.
  • CSA-L2Occ60 Mark out from setting out details for routine joinery products.
  • CSA-L2Occ61 Manufacture routine joinery products.

At this intermediate level, working in our simulated workshop environment, you will learn a wide variety of practical skills (and theoretical knowledge) which will prepare you for working in a Joinery workshop. Items of joinery to make are: doors, windows, frames, linings, units and

fitments and staircases. There will be a number of theory assessments with a final practical assignment to complete the qualification.

Full time learners will continue to study GCSE English and Maths if not already achieved.

L2 Bench Joinery Full-Time & Part-Time

The course builds on L1 Carpentry & Joinery learning how to use woodworking machinery to create carpentry and Joinery products such as windows, doors & straight stairs. Along with knowledge of the construction industry including health & safety.

Assessment is ongoing through the year with 5 theory units requiring the passing of online exams and the completion of a practical synoptic task.

Progression routes include L3 Bench Joinery, L3 Furniture Manufacture & L3 Site Carpentry.

Equipment required includes: A textbook, notebook, tape measure, and corded headphones for theory lessons, 2H pencils, a maths set of drawing equipment and PPE equipment including safety boots, dust masks, eye protection and suitable gloves.

Full Time option: 3 days a week for full time students.

Part Time option: 2 evenings per week from 6pm-9pm or 1 day per week you will infilling with full time students.


This course is suitable for those who have completed the Carpentry and Joinery Diploma Level 1, and wish to further their skills and abilities in Bench Joinery to tradesman level.

Entry requirement: Successful completion of the Carpentry and Joinery Diploma Level 1.

Application Review Meeting

Before offering you a place at college, we’ll meet with you (either in person, by telephone or online). We’ll send you a link to our booking page where you can select a time that’s convenient for you.

Step 4

Accept Your Place

Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided. The offer will be conditional, based on predicted GCSE grades. You’ll need to accept your offer within 14 days to secure your place.

Once you receive your GCSE results, you’ll need to get in touch with the college to inform us of them and start your enrolment process.
