COURSE OVERVIEW
The main aim of German for Beginners is to help you learn the basics of the German language and build a strong foundation for further study. You will cover essential vocabulary and grammar topics that will enable you to communicate in everyday situations that you might encounter whilst travelling in Germany or German speaking countries. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop your confidence in using German in a variety of everyday settings such as introducing yourself, ordering food and drink, getting by in tourist situations, and talking about your hobbies and interests.
- Practise your listening and speaking skills through a variety of interactive activities, including dialogues, role plays, and audio exercises.
- Develop your reading and writing skills through comprehension tasks and short written assignments.
- Learn about different aspects of German life and culture.
By the end of the course, you should feel more confident in your ability to understand and speak German at a basic level. We hope you enjoy the journey and wish you much success in your studies!
German for Beginners Stage 1 is a part-time leisure course for adults (19+) with no previous knowledge of the language who are interested in learning useful everyday phrases and basic grammar. All you’;ll need is a keen interest to learn!
This course will run on Monday evenings from 23 September 2024 (19:00 – 21:00).
This course does not run in half term or end of term breaks.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Anyone wishing to be introduced to the basic aspects of the German language and to enable you to take part in simple conversation whether with friends or on holiday. You are not required to have any previous German language experience.
Join our German for Beginners Stage 2 course to further develop your German language skills and enjoy exploring the culture.
There is continuous classroom assessment during the course where the tutor will evaluate your progress.
Upon completion you will receive a college attendance certificate.

- Hueber Verlag: Deutsch Sprachkurs Plus A1/A2 ISBN: 978319199475, about £29. Please try: The German Bookshop – www.germanbookshop.co.uk (020 7240 1634). This book will last for 2 years.
- In addition to the above textbook, the students can acquire a small reference book from the lecturer for £4.50, which will be referred to every so often during this year as well as the years to follow.
