Electrical Testing and Fault Finding for Gas Fitters


Learners will have the opportunity to understand how appliance and system controls work, how to safely test using earth fault loop impedance testers, multi-meters and how to interpret and action results. There is an emphasis on understanding wiring diagrams in relation to operational sequences for all appliance and control systems and how to work safely.

You will cover the following:

  • Module 1: Basic Electrical Knowledge & Understanding (Compulsory)
  • Module 2: How Systems Work
  • Module 3: Health, Safety and Safe Isolation (Compulsory)
  • Module 4: Fault Finding, Control & Component Exchange
The course runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm.


This course is for engineers who maintain gas appliances and Central Heating control systems and wish to further their knowledge, understanding and application, related to safely testing, diagnosing faults, and exchanging controls & components.

Learners must hold appropriate ACS gas certificates. As a minimum, learners must hold CCN1 and the appropriate appliance category certificates such as: CENWAT, CKR1 or DAH1.

Complete each step of the application form and then submit your completed form. We’ll let you know when we’ve safely received it with an acknowledgement email.

Step 3

Application Review Meeting

Before offering you a place at college, we’ll meet with you (either in person, by telephone or online). We’ll send you a link to our booking page where you can select a time that’s convenient for you.

Step 4

Accept Your Place

Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided. The offer will be conditional, based on predicted GCSE grades. You’ll need to accept your offer within 14 days to secure your place.

Step 5

What next?

Once you receive your GCSE results, you’ll need to get in touch with the college to inform us of them and start your enrolment process.
