COURSE OVERVIEW
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is a full-time Engineering course on an Aeronautical Pathway. This course is equivalent to three A Levels. It provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the design, development manufacture and maintenance of aircraft/aviation products and systems. The course provides the theoretical and practical skills needed to work in the aeronautical industry. Job roles include design, maintenance, manufacture and project management. The course includes an engineering project, Mathematics for engineering technicians, the theory of flight and principles and applications of aircraft mechanical science. Learning is achieved through the completion of projects and assignments based on workplace situations and provides electrical and mechanical content to provide multi-skilled employees.
STEM building
The college has built a multi-million pound facility at Crawley College that puts the college at the cutting edge of training delivery in electrical electronic. The new building is home to a suite of modern teaching and interactive spaces, which integrate the use of technology and STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) in to its curriculum. One of the benefits of joining a large college group such as the Chichester College Group is that the Aeronautical provision has been working with colleagues at our Shoreham campus to provide wider resources for students to work on aircrafts within their hanger.
The college also operates a large workshop space to support all learners’; to develop their practical hand skills. This area includes Lathes milling and CNC machines and is used to create, conduct testing and inspection, explore meeting tolerances as part of problem solving existing engineering problems.
