AAT L3 Adv Dip in Accounting
COURSE OVERVIEW
This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) advanced level course is a mid-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is looking to advance their existing knowledge of accounting.
This Level 3 course is part of the National Skills Fund initiative and is fully funded for eligible learners. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of studying this course. Please ask a member of college staff for more information.
What will I learn?
This qualification covers a range of complex accounting tasks. You will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues in business, management accounting costing techniques and ethical practices for accountants. You will also gain software skills through spreadsheet training for accounting.
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those who looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

– Business Awareness
You will also develop business communications and lifelong learning skills, applying what you learn on the course to the wider industry context.

FURTHER INFORMATION
You must have a sound knowledge of bookkeeping principles to undertake the AAT Level 3 programme. Achievement of a merit at AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping or equivalent is essential.
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting
The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeper. You will also be eligible for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.
All assessments in this qualification are:
- Set and marked by AAT
- Computer based
- Three are marked by the computer
- One is marked partly by computer and partly human marked.
To achieve the qualification a student must pass all the mandatory assessments
Unit assessments are not awarded grades individually, but the marks achieved in all assessments contribute to the student’s overall grade for the qualification.
Grades awarded are:
Distinction – 90% – 100%
Merit – 80% – 89%
Pass – 70% – 79%
Unclassified – 0% – 69%
Advanced Learner Loans
Learners who are aged 19 and over and studying Level 3 – 6 Further Education and training programmes.
Advanced Learner Loans will give learners in further education access to financial support for tuition costs, similar to that which is available in Higher Education. This means rather than an individual having to pay for their course upfront they have the option of accessing a loan, from the Student Loans Company, that they will only start to repay once they have left the course and are earning over £25,000.
Learners aged 19 and over will therefore have the option to either:
- Pay the course fees themselves
- Have an employer/sponsor pay the course fees for them
- Apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help pay for the course fees
The Advanced Learner Loans are for anyone who is:
- Aged 19 and above at the start of their course
- Studying at Level 3 – 6 in Further Education and training
- Resident in the UK
- Has not previously had a loan to do the same type and level of qualification.
The loan is available irrespective of the learner’s current employment status and the loan will not be means tested or subject to any credit checks.
Note: All AAT students have to personally register as student members of the AAT. These fees are not included in the course fees charged by the college.
The cost of the course includes tuition and first exam sitting for each module, but does not include text books or membership fees. We use the Osborne Tutorial books, the BPP Question Banks and the Kaplan Exam Kits and the total cost of books for all six modules will be approx £150. You must get all the books for each module as they will all be used in class.

Accept Your Place
Offers will be sent to you via the email address you have provided. The offer will be conditional, based on predicted GCSE grades. You’ll need to accept your offer within 14 days to secure your place.
Step 5
What next?
Once you receive your GCSE results, you’ll need to get in touch with the college to inform us of them and start your enrolment process.
